OUR MATERIALS AND CARE guide
When not in use, store your jewellery in a box such as the original packaging to avoid damage to the item. When storing your jewellery for long periods of time between wears, store each piece individually in small zip-lock bags sealed tightly, removing as much ‘still’ air as possible. This will help lessen any natural tarnishing, which can occur from sulphurs found in the air/environment (also known as oxidation).
All of our rings are crafted in sterling silver with rhodium/white gold plating OR 14ct/18ct gold-plating.
Each piece is stamped with 925, certifying its genuine sterling silver composition.
925 Sterling Silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The copper is added for durability.
Our rings are all handmade and are crafted to perfection with a gorgeous alternative to a mined diamond. Our cubic zirconia stones are cut to the highest quality standards. You’ll get all of the brilliance of a diamond without having to spend a fortune.
Your jewellery should be the first thing to come off and last thing to go on when getting dressed.
For plated sterling silver jewellery please note that due to the delicate nature of gold plating, and the frequency of wear, pieces will need re-plating depending on wear to maintain their original appearance.
Plating rubbing off or sterling silver tarnishing is a natural part of wear and tear, and is not considered a manufacturing fault. If your 925 Sterling Silver jewellery oxidises, you can polish the piece with our soft cloth to restore its shine.
Different skin acidity levels and how the product is worn and stored will influence the life of plating in our products.
- Keep your pieces in the jewellery box when not in use
- Do not sleep or exercise in your jewellery
- Avoid chemicals (especially hand cream, hand sanitiser and perfumes)
- Avoid bathing, showering, washing your hands and cleaning with jewellery on
- Avoid wearing jewellery in any water/chlorinated pools
- Wait for all creams/lotions to dry before putting on any jewellery
While it does not happen often, from time to time, pavé stones may fall out with improper care. Each stone is set with tiny prongs or beads. As with any setting, if one prong gets snagged or bumped/damaged, it might become loose, and this may cause a stone to fall out.
Take extra care to not knock or bump micro pavé settings.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELLERY
To keep your stones looking sparkly, make sure to gently wipe them down with a jewellery cloth.
If you do not wipe down the stone or maintain proper care, the stone will accumulate a build up of sweat, lotion, hairspray, beauty products etc. These can also build up on the bottom of the stone.
It’s a good idea to clean cloudy stones to bring back the sparkle.
What You’ll Need:
- Soft-bristle toothbrush
- Mild dish soap
- Warm water
- Soft polishing cloth
Follow the steps below
- A little washing up liquid mixed in with some warm water is all you need to create an effective soaking solution for your jewellery. Pop the ring into this mixture and leave to soak for around 10 minutes before removing. This will help loosen any dirt, oils, or residue trapped in and around the gemstone and its setting.
- After soaking, take a soft-bristle toothbrush or a soft cloth and gently scrub the stone and most importantly, the base of the stone, as this is where daily build-up accumulates. Be sure to reach all the crevices and intricate areas where dirt may accumulate. Avoid using excessive pressure, as it can cause scratching or damage. Avoid scrubbing the band and prongs as this will wear away your rhodium and yellow gold plating.
- Thoroughly rinse the jewellery under cold running water to remove any remaining cleaning solution. Take care not to drop the jewellery down the drain! After rinsing, pat the piece dry with a microfibre cloth or lint-free towel. Avoid air-drying, as it may leave water spots.
- To give your jewellery that extra shine, use a dry microfibre or lint-free polishing cloth to gently buff the stone. This will remove any remaining smudges and enhance its brilliance.
Important Tips:
- Remove jewellery before engaging in activities that may expose it to chemicals or potential damage, such as household cleaning, gardening, or sport. Take off bracelets and rings before doing the washing up.
- Avoid direct contact with perfume, hairspray, lotions, or other beauty products, as they can dull the stones sparkle over time.
- When you’re not wearing your jewellery, store it in the jewellery box, avoid keeping it alongside other jewellery pieces so as to minimize potential damage. We supply our jewellery boxes with every piece of Kaiva London jewellery.
